What's Your Pregnancy Question?:

Why is my fundal height measuring 2 weeks ahead?
I'm 34 wks and it's measuring at 35 1/2 or 36 wks. Could there be something wrong? or is the baby just bigger? My belly looks super small though for 34 wks, but my fundal height is ahead? Did this happen to you and was your baby healthy? No, i dont have gestational diabetes. And i dont have excessive amniotic fluid.

my fundal height is the exact opposite of 36 weeks and measuring close to 34 so they gave me an ultrasound and everything was fine. they said it depends on the way you are built. my belly looks smaller than most people but he is perfectly fine weight and heght. so its prob. fine.

It's because those height numbers are just averages, and babies grow at their own rates after the first trimester instead of all of them following the same pattern.

Do you have gestational diabetes? Sometimes that would account for a fat baby, causing you to measure further ahead. It could also be twins (but you would probably know by now), or you could be further along then you thought...I wouldn't stress about it. Better measuring ahead then behind!!

when I hit 30 weeks I was measuring 36. they did an ultrasound, and the doc just said my baby would be large. When I was 7 months i looked like I was 9 already. My doctor said she just wouldn't let me go 1 day past my due date. The baby was born 3 days late since my due date was on a holiday and they don't schedule elective inductions on holidays. She weighed 10 lb 6 oz! But don't let that scare you, my family has large babies and adults. my father weighed over 13 lbs (his mom was barely 5 ft tall). My father, brother, uncles and grandfather were all more than 6'5" so don't freak out over the difference. Chances are good that you will be within normal range for baby size. The fundal height is after all just an average. For that to work out, some people have to be at both extremes me at the large, and possibly you at the small. Good luck and don't worry, You will be fine.

I measured 2 weeks ahead too. And I ended up having both my kids at 37 weeks. The doctor told me that it could be the baby stretching out that makes it measure bigger.

It's perfectly normal. Babies grow at different rates. Your baby may have just had a growth spurt this week, and will stay in one place next week, resulting in you being back to "where you should be". But remember, "where you should be" is just a generalization or an average of how the majority of women measure at that point in their pregnancies. Some will measure over, some will measure under. And it's not even that accurate, since it can be thrown off by how different doctors measure or even how your baby was laying when they measured.
